More than 1400 children, adults and people with disabilities ran in the first edition of the Run for Heroes – fueled by OSCAR charity cross
The first Superhero Race in Romania, organized by OSCAR Downstream, generated unexpected excitement. More than 1400 children, adults and people with disabilities ran in support of the Run for Heroes – fueled by OSCAR campaign, a campaign to raise awareness and remove the stigma related to mental health.
By far the most popular race was the one for families with children under 16, which attracted 400 children accompanied by their parents. Most of the participants came dressed as today's iconic superheroes.
At the same time, people with disabilities were able to register and participate for free in the 1km race for people with disabilities on an adapted course.
The 7km race around Herăstrău Lake, dedicated to endurance runners, saw more than 700 participants. The men's race was won by Alexandru Corneschi in 0:22:49, while the women's race was won by Irina Popa in 0:27:17.
"Congratulations to all participants! We are happy that so many people responded to our invitation. The energy, the good will and the superhero attitude enlivened the streets of Herăstrău Park on Saturday and gave us confidence that a new community is being built before our eyes. Run for Heroes - fueled by OSCAR is an initiative that takes a stand and says NO to stereotypes, discrimination and social prejudices related to mental health. We thank our partners at the Social Psychotherapy Centre TFH (Together for Humanity) - superheroes themselves for the patients they work with, for the work they do every day. Together with them and these wonderful people who walked with us on 15 June, we can make a difference in the lives of those facing such challenges," said Nicolae Bănică, CEO of OSCAR Downstream.
"We are deeply grateful to all the participants of the first edition of the Run for Heroes - fueled by OSCAR charity cross race. Thanks to you, the Togethe For Humanity Social Psychotherapy Center will be able to continue offering free therapy to the beneficiaries of social cases. The funds raised from this event will enable counselling and therapy to be provided to people in difficulty, helping to improve their quality of life. Your enthusiasm and energy have been the driving force behind our continued work to remove the stigma around mental health and promote a more empathetic and inclusive society. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and for choosing to run with us to make a real difference to the lives of those in need. Together we are stronger and can bring positive change to the community," said Răzvan Popa, President of the Together for Humanity Psychotherapy Center.
