The Alfa Foundation is committed to supporting interdisciplinary education and access to science, and we are delighted to be sponsoring SciFest, the festival dedicated to innovation and interactive learning

The Student Organization for Nature (OSpN) is a student NGO affiliated with the Faculty of Biology and Geology at Babeș-Bolyai University. OSpN's objective is to identify and pursue the shared interests of students while also promoting scientific, educational, and conservation initiatives. By developing scientific-educational projects, organizing seminars and conferences, and addressing the educational, cultural, and social needs of students and pupils, OSpN contributes to the advancement of knowledge and the improvement of the academic and social environment.

The Alfa Foundation for Health and Education is a non-profit organisation with a mission to ensure fair access to education and health for all. It supports talented young people and children from disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to continue their studies. The ALFA for Education programme enables the Alfa Foundation to support academic development through important partnerships. These include collaborations with the Romanian Academy, where it offers research scholarships, and with the Royal Margareta Foundation of Romania, through "ALFA Scholarships and ALFA Summer School". The programme has recently expanded to provide support to students of the Faculty of Petroleum Technology and Petrochemistry of the Petroleum-Gas University of Ploiești, offering scholarships dedicated to academic excellence and young people with low incomes. The Alfa Foundation is also the main sponsor of the International Congress for Medical Students and Young Doctors (IMSCB), reflecting its commitment to the education and training of young generations of professionals.

SciFest is the first science festival to be held in the city of Cluj-Napoca. The first edition took place in 2018 with the theme The Science of Things. The festival's objective is to promote science as a key driver of societal development through interdisciplinary means, in a manner that is both engaging and interactive.

This year, OSpN is organising SciFest with the theme of The Science of Crime Scene Investigations (CSI). The objective is to gain insight into the highly complex and fascinating world of criminal investigations and to highlight the techniques used to solve crime mysteries.

 

In this edition, interdisciplinary activities include:

  • November 11, 2024: The first conference entitled "Together with the dead, in the service of the sick: life at the morgue" will be held by Mr. Dr. Ștefan Claudiu Mirescu, specialist in pathological anatomy. It will take place at the "Dumitru Fărcaș" Student Cultural House, starting at 6:00 p.m.
  • November 12, 2024: Quiz followed by karaoke that will take place at Cleo Pub, 8:00 p.m. It will be a fun evening where participants can test their knowledge in a relaxed setting.
  • November 13, 2024: The second conference will be held by Prof. Univ. Dr. Laura Visu-Petra, together with Dr. Andreea Tur and will have the title "On both sides of the bars: The "dark" and "bright" personality in freedom and detention." The conference will take place at the "Dumitru Fărcaș" Student Cultural Center, starting at 6:00 p.m.
  • 14 noiembrie 2024: Escape Room, va avea loc la Qub Education. Reprezintă o experiență captivantă pentru participanții dornici să-și testeze creativitatea și spiritul de observație într-un scenariu tensionant: captivi în casa criminalului.
  • November 15, 2024: The day of experiments will take place at the Casino - Urban Culture Center, between 12:00-18:00. This activity will be in collaboration with the Organization of Chemistry Students (OSC), the Association of Physics Students from Babeș-Bolyai University (ASFUBB) and the Organization of Psychology Students from Romania (ASPR).
