The Alfa Foundation for Health and Education has announced the launch of a scholarship programme for students at the Faculty of Petroleum and Petrochemical Technology at the University of Petrol-Gas in Ploiești. The objective of this partnership is to provide support for academic excellence and to offer financial assistance to students from low-income backgrounds, thereby contributing to the training of the next generation of specialists in the field of petroleum and petrochemicals.
The ALFA Scholarship Program represents one of the most significant initiatives undertaken by the Alfa Foundation. The principal objective of the programme is to provide support for talented and dedicated young people, thereby facilitating their ability to reach their full potential. Furthermore, the programme is now engaged in a collaborative endeavour with the Faculty of Petroleum Technology and Petrochemistry of the Petrol-Gas University of Ploiești, in addition to the successful ongoing partnerships with the Romanian Academy and the The Margareta of Romania Royal Foundation. The collaboration between the Alfa Foundation and the Faculty of Petroleum Technology and Petrochemicals provides scholarships to deserving students, with the objective of supporting academic excellence and providing financial assistance to those from disadvantaged backgrounds. The Foundation thus plays a role in the training of a new generation of specialists, equipped to meet the professional challenges of an essential field for Romania.
The Alfa Foundation is offering 10 scholarships for the 2024-2025 academic year, distributed as follows:
- 7 social scholarships, valued at 3,500 lei each, are available for low-income students enrolled in years I-IV.
- 3 excellence scholarships, each valued at 8,500 lei, will be awarded at the conclusion of the academic year to students enrolled in years I-III, with one scholarship being granted for each year of study, based on the average ranking.
”It is unreasonable to expect that society and the education system will provide us with the best specialists without taking steps to prepare them while they are still students at university," said Mr. Mihai Măcelaru, President of the Alfa Foundation for Health and Education. "It is only by being directly involved in their preparation, regardless of the field in which they will be employed, that we can ensure that tomorrow's employees will be of the highest professional and human quality. "In this way, the Alfa Foundation fulfils a mission of public utility, and the partnerships that it has established serve as the most compelling evidence of this.”
Conf. univ. dr. eng. Alin Diniță, Rector of the Petrol-Gas University of Ploiești observed that "It is imperative that there be a symbiotic relationship between society at large and the university if a community is to flourish and if future professionals are to be adequately trained. Such collaboration allows universities to align their educational programmes with the current needs and requirements of society, thereby ensuring that graduates possess the requisite professional and social skills for both the present and the future. By forging strategic alliances, such as the one between the Alfa Foundation and the University of Petrol-Gas in Ploiești, a vibrant ecosystem is established in which students and the wider community can engage in collaborative endeavours and drive innovation.”
Senior Prof. Dr. Ing. Cristina Dușescu-Vasile, Dean of the Faculty of Petroleum Technology and Petrochemicals, underscored the significance of collaboration. ”The development of a professional career and performance in one's chosen field commences from the initial stages of one's academic pursuits. Teachers, mentors, employers and professional bodies are always partners with students on their journey to professional fulfilment. In collaboration with our partners, we endeavour to establish the most conducive circumstances for the personal and professional advancement of our students, who are poised to become accomplished professionals with comprehensive training.”
The Alfa Foundation for Health and Education provides support for the development of infrastructure and services in the fields of education and health.
