Call for applications for ALFA for Excellence in Research Scholarships

"Acad. Nicolae Cajal" Scholarship

The Romanian Academy, Romania's highest scientific and cultural forum, and the Alfa Foundation for Health and Education announce the launch of the selection competition for the scholarship for scientific excellence in the field of medical sciences - ALFA for Excellence in Research - "Acad. Nicolae Cajal" Scholarship.

 

The Alfa Foundation for Health and Education and the Romanian Academy offer researchers in medical sciences, up to 55 years of age, working in research institutions/universities in Romania a scholarship of 5000 euros for 12 months.

 

Eligibility conditions:

The following are eligible for the "acad. Nicolae Cajal" Scholarship: qualified candidates who are university graduates with a Ph.D. in the medical sciences, with a maximum age of 55 years, working in research institutions/universities in Romania.

The selection of the applications will be made by a special committee formed at the initiative of the President of the Medical Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy and a representative of the Alfa Foundation for Health and Education. The topic of the research project proposed by the candidates must fall within the research directions.

 

Registration for the competition:

Applicants are requested to download the competition application form, complete it in Romanian and sign it. For validation, the form must be accompanied by the following documents:

1. Certificate of the applicant's researcher status

2. Photocopy of the candidate's identity card

3. Letter of intent

4. Curriculum vitae

5. Research project in Romanian with the following structure:

- working hypothesis and relevance of the topic;

- feasibility of the project and a brief presentation of the research background;

- research methodology;

- the stages of the project;

- dissemination potential

6. List of publications accompanied by a chapter of the most recently published/supported paper or the most recently published study/article.

 

All the documents mentioned above must be submitted in a sealed envelope to the General Registry of the Romanian Academy until March 4, 2024, 14.00. The documents can be sent in electronic version to the address: apopescu@acad.ro, in PDF format. The parts of the file will have the initials of the applicant's name and the document's title (e.g., Ioan Popescu: IP-Research project) and will be archived in a single folder.

 

Evaluation and selection of candidates:

The profile committee will evaluate the applications received:

1. Relevance of the project;

2. Scientific quality of the project (relevance of the working hypotheses; consistency and diversity of the primary sources considered;

3. Scientific activity of the applicant.

 

The Romanian Academy and the Alfa Foundation for Health and Education reserve the right to use the contact or institutional data provided by the applicants in order to clarify possible doubts in the application files.

The evaluation result may be contested within 24 hours of the posting. Appeals should be sent by e-mail to cancelaria@acad.ro.

The final selection results will be published on the website www.acad.ro and www.fundatia-alfa.ro by 14:00 on March 6 2024.

 

The status is given by the "Acad. Nicolae Cajal" Scholarship

Successful candidates will sign a scholarship contract with the Alfa Foundation for Health and Education. At the time of signing the contract, the successful candidate will receive the status of a fellow, a status that carries rights and obligations.

 

Rights of Scholarship Holders

1. Monthly scholarship. During the 12 months of research, fellows will receive financial support of 416 euro/month/each, with payment in lei at the BNR exchange rate on the bank transfer day.

2. Unlimited access to the academic resources of the Medical Sciences Section of the Romanian Academy.

3. Expert advice from specialists within the Section.

4. At their request, fellows may participate in the Section's various activities.

 

Obligations of the fellows

1. At the end of the fellowship period, Fellows will hand in a study representing the outcome of their research, comprising original empirical research contributions, carried out with methodological accuracy. The studies may be included in a publication of the Romanian Academy. Papers previously published in the country or abroad are not accepted.

2. The fellow is required to acknowledge the support of the Alfa Foundation for Health and Education and the Romanian Academy in the "Acknowledgements" section (or any other equivalent) in all papers based on research conducted during the fellowship.

Any act (present or past) involving plagiarism will result in immediate loss of fellowship status and the return of any monies obtained.

February 16 2024: Launch of the competition

March 4 2024: Deadline for submission of applications

March 6 2024: Announcement of eligible candidates

March 7 2024: Interview

March 8 2024: Publication of preliminary results

March 10 2024: Settlement of appeals and announcement of final results
